Just a Few Things…

Hey!

These photos and part of this post are a day late, I was having some technical difficulties yesterday. Along those lines, I would like to take this opportunity to say that when the Verizon phone company claims that they have the best and furthest-reaching service, they are lying. At my Father’s house and in the few neighborhoods around us, there is so little service that your phone’s battery will drain completely within the hour and sometimes when you go back into a serviced zone your missed calls don’t show up.

Okay, complaining time is over.

Yesterday was wonderful despite the fact that my Mom and I are separated by an 18-hour car ride.  I skyped her and got to hear about all the goings-on with her and my sister. I miss the physical proximity but video chatting is such a wonderful invention.
I helped my dad make Connie breakfast, and after letting the good food settle we went on a walk. The state park has a new dog beach and Colt and Bullet were pleased as punch to trot in the wet sand and drag waterlogged sticks through the grasses. I hope every mom, grandma, aunt, stepmother, daughter, and woman had a great day yesterday!

Kittens!
Penny and her brood are doing just fine. The babies all have had both their eyes open at some point or another, but every morning each kitty has at least one eye all gooped shut. Mama trusts me to carefully wash their eyes with a soft cloth and checks up on us often. I am 88% sure that the two orange babes are boys and the two with darker coloring are girls. That being said, the boys are getting to be so big! the girls fit in the palm of my hand but their brothers bellies are so squishy and big now I have to use two hands. I like calling the boys Leonard and Howard, but the girls simply can not be called Raj and Sheldon any longer. Sheldon is now Zelda, but I am having trouble fitting a name to little Raj. Perhaps Bernadette? The whole “Big Bang Theory” theme was broken with Zelda, but Bernadette seems kind of sweet. Ahh, I will have to think on this one. Mama is as patient as ever with feeding and cleaning her babies. She is comfortable enough to crawl in my lap and ask for even more love now, which makes me happy. Having these five new lives brings such joy to my life, and watching them all grow and develop personalities is completely priceless.

On a side note, I started my summer waitressing gig last week, so I apologize for the time lapse between posts.

A Beginning

Hello, Aloha, Hola, Hi, Hey there!

This being my very first post, I must admit I find myself slightly nervous. As I write this very sentence I have already hit the backspace on several that just weren’t destined to be in this spot. What will I say? What will spill out? I found this past year to be the first year in a very long time that my fingers did not frequently find the shutter button of a camera and I hope this new blogging adventure will help me to change that.

Today was beautiful despite the cool weather. The aura was very warm in the house, and I enjoyed the time alone.

The little mama is so patient.

Yesterday my stepmother, Connie, and I took home a beautiful orange tabby cat and her four kittens from our local animal shelter. The mama is only about seven or eight months, just a baby herself. Despite her being thrust early into this role, she seems to have embraced it wholeheartedly. When she gazes up at me her eyes are filled with such longing- the life she could have otherwise led? Hopes for her tiny kitten’s futures? More than likely she just wants her body back to herself, but she lays there nursing, cleaning, touching, and cuddling the six-day-old kittens as if there is no place else she’d rather be.

My dad and I watch The Big Bang Theory together, and upon learning that none of our five new friends had names he insisted on naming them after the characters. So, world, my little mama is Penny, and her babies are Raj, Howard, Leonard and Sheldon.  (My dad thinks it is “too cute” to call them this, so I’ll let it stand for now. However, I am almost certain two are girls so I am open to more suitable names. I do like how they all go together though!)

Little mama and the gang currently reside in our office room, lest our two dogs and male cat go near. For now I pet mama and feed her well, so she lets me hold the babies while she eats. Their faint mews and tiny claws are such a delight in this giant, loud world. I hope that by the time they are ready to be adopted (Which will be around June 25) they are bright, playful, happy, healthy kittens. I am so excited to watch them grow and develop their own personalities!

Lunchtime is hectic.

Mama must bring Raj back to the nest.
